The hiccups and uncertainties continue to remain for the taxi aggregators like Ola and Uber.

  • The government could soon ask all taxi aggregators including Uber and Ola to get their fare calculation software validated from the ministry of electronics and IT, along with including black and yellow taxis on their platform and following city specific fuel norms.
  • Ola and Uber have been facing troubles and uncertainties over various issues like driver vetting, pricing and safety issues.
  • A meeting of the committee of state transport ministers has already deliberated on the issue and guidelines for taxi aggregators are likely to be issued soon and will include a cap on the maximum fare that could be charged.

The fare calculation mechanism for all modes of public transport are authorised by government. We need to do the same for taxi aggregators so their system becomes credible and there are no doubts on the software they use for calculating fares, taking into account distance travelled and time taken
